Chiara Perruchon

Senior Researcher

Dr. Chiara Perruchon has a first degree in Biotechnology and a Master-equivalent degree in Industrial Biotechnology, both obtained at the University of Pavia, Italy. She was awarded of her PhD in 2014 by the University of Thessaly (UTH), Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Greece, after working in the Laboratory of Plant and Environmental Biotechnology under the supervision of Prof. D. Karpouzas (IKY scholarship). The title of her PhD was: “Isolation and study of bacteria able to degrade pesticides contained in the wastewaters produced by the fruit-packaging industry”. Since then she has worked on national (BIOREMEDIATOMICS, ARISTEIA II, OMIC-ENGINE, HFRI) and EU-funded (MSCA-IAPP-FP7) projects, with scientific visits to France and Germany. In 2022/2025 she was the PI of the HFRI project FRIDA, exploring the interplay between nitrification inhibitors and the soil microbiome. Her research interests are centered on the environmental impact of various xenobiotics (pesticides, antibiotics, nitrification inhibitors), with major focus on their potential biodegradation and the further isolation, purification, and characterization of degrading microorganisms. She has co-authored 27 articles in peer-reviewed journals (h-index: 15, Citations: 668).
