Sotirios Vasileiadis is an Assistant Professor at the Lab of Plant and Environmental Biotechnology (LPEB) of Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology (DBB), University of Thessaly (UTH). He has expertise on the fields of Microbial Ecology, Molecular Microbial Ecology and associated Bioinformatics/Statistics. He was awarded his University Diploma in Agricultural sciences by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, his MSc by the University of Wageningen and his PhD in Soil Microbial Ecology from Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (UCattSC), Italy. During his PhD and first postDoc at UCattSC he developed methods for the study of phylogenetic marker gene diversity with multiplexed high throughput sequencing, and built his skills on associated bioinformatics/biostatistics and microbial genomics/metagenomics. Following, he performed a second postdoc at the University of South Australia (Mawson Lakes, Adelaide) working on the metal and antibiotic stress on environmental microbiota. He then joined the LPEB working as a Marie Curie fellow through a MSCA Individual Fellowship (EMIGRATE) using advanced omics and bioinformatics tools to study microbial ecotoxicology, and metagenome mining for novel pollutant biodegrading enzymes. He has been an IF-MSCA-H2020 Fellow (150K€), coordinate(d)s HFRI projects (170K€), and participate(d)s/partner(ed)s in several other EU and international Australian projects (South Australian PRIF Industry Linkage Research Grant 900K AUD, Australian Synchrotron Access Grant 30K AUD, DN HORIZON-MSCA-2022-DN-01-01 “PharmERA” 2.6M€, WIDENING HORIZON-WIDERA-2021-ACCESS-03-01 “ACTIONr” 1.5M€, REA HORIZON-CL6-2022-FARM2FORK-01-01 “RATION” 7M€). He (has) participate(d)s also as external collaborator through bioinformatics service providing and microbial ecology consultancies for research and academic institutes (NIREAS, Nicosia, Cyprus; University of South Australia, Adelaide, Australia), and the industry (Advanced Analytical Technologies, Fiorenzuola d’ Arda, Piacenza, Italy). Finally, he is a Management Committee member for the COST-Action Water4Reuse. He authored 86 articles in peer-reviewed journals (Scopus citations 2405, h-index 30 / Google scholar citations 3221, h-index 34).
